Abstract

Psychiatrist Kateřina Duchoňová was the only East European participant at a conference with took place in the Iraqi Kurdistan in the city of Duhok. The conference dealt with the issues of treatment of individuals, heavily traumatised by war and oppression. It took place in the vicinity of the borders of a territory controlled by the Islamic State. Jan Čulík discusses the issues of the conference and the - more or less disinterested - attitudes of the European citizens to the suffering of people in the Middle East, subjected to the terror of the Islamic State, especially women and children. The interview includes a series of photographs taken by Kateřina Duchoňová in Kurdistan. The interview was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 7th February 2020.
