Abstract

This chapter considers how pornography and other forms of commercial sex function within the immersive 3-D virtual world of Second Life. Set against an historical account of the porn industry in relation to technological change, the analysis seeks to distinguish the virtual world from other forms of online porn. Particular attention will be given to the way in which boundaries of production and consumption in Second Life are blurred, thinking through modes of participation and identity.
