Abstract
A new method of analysing spectra, based on a genetic algorithm, is presented. The algorithm reconstructs spectra to be analysed from a combination of previously measured ‘library’ functions by producing a number of trial solutions and ‘evolving’ them to obtain an optimal solution. The method is tested by using spectra obtained from a real Ge(Li) detector.
