Abstract

Acute liver failure is a condition with a high mortality, in which patient survival is optimised by intensive multisystem supportive care and liver transplantation if required. In this review we summarise the definitions and aetiologies of the condition anal outline the various complications and their management. The indications for transplantation and other more recent developments are discussed.
