Abstract

Until 2015, the European Union was not a problem for the British. The chaotic, absurd, comic history of attempts to bring about Brexit in the UK is a serious warning for the Europeans about what happens when a country is taken over by populists and nationalists who fantasise about a future which does not exist and cannot ever happen. Britské listy journalists Jan Čulík and Bohumil Kartous debate the catastrophe that is Brexit and relate it to other nonsensical constructions, such as the notion, forced on Czech citizens by Czech politicians, that "security" is the most important problem facing the Czech Republic today. The discussion was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 5th April 2019.
