Abstract
The aim of the current paper is to explain how lateral surveillance is employed on Facebook by users from Romania. The two main aspects I am focusing on are peer monitoring and strategic representations of the self in anticipation of the possibility of being watched. Additionally, my objective is to examine the factors that motivate people to engage in this type of activity. In order to pursue these inquiries, I have conducted 14 semi-structured interviews with Romanian users aged 18 to 30.
