Abstract
Substantial Motion Research Network (SMRN) is an international research network for scholars and practitioners interested in the cross-cultural exploration of media art and philosophy founded by Laura Marks and Azadeh Emadi. Its primary focus is the intercultural study of new media specifically from the intersection of Islamic and Western concepts and philosophy, and to produce new theories and methods for researching media art. It is a site for online publications, symposia and exhibitions, as well as a place of international collaboration.
