Abstract

n a retrospective analysis of bone densitometry scans performed in an audit of 576 children with chronic disease, lean-mass-adjusted bone mineral content (BMC) for the total body and the lumbar spine was marginally lower in children with fractures. However, the predictive ability of different bone mineral densities (BM) and BMC cut-offs to identify fracture risk in children with chronic disease needs to be tested for specific disease conditions in larger prospective studies.
