Abstract

I curated this group exhibition, which includes works by seven internationally acclaimed artists, as a response to The Hunterian's tercentennial celebration 'William Hunter and the Anatomy of the Modern Museum.' It reconsiders the aesthetic and political legacies of Hunter's Enlightenment inquiry into human and animal embodiment, and his encyclopaedic collecting of art and ethnography. The works included newly-commissioned prints and sculptures by Claire Barclay along with films, prints and sculptures by Christine Borland, Sarah Browne, Alex Impey, Shahryar Nashat and Phillip Warnell. An essay was published to accompany the exhibition.
