Abstract

The third stage larvae and puparia of Ornidia major Curran, 1930, Ornidia whiteheadi Thompson, 1991, and Ornidia obesa (Fabricius 1775) are compared and a set of shared characters described. The genus is distinguished from other volucelline taxa, and its key characters discussed and illustrated. Based on larvae and puparia, a key is provided to identify Ornidia Lepeletier & Serville, 1828 and each larva and puparium of the three species considered here. Breeding sites and rearing data are also given.
