Abstract

After many months of ruling without a parliamentary mandate, Czech billionaire, oligarch and current PM Andrej Babiš has now managed to form a government with Czech Parliament's approval. The government's survival depends on the support of the Czech Communist Party. But is this such a new thing? Czech parliamentary parties have been cooperating with the Czech Communists in parliamentary committees for the past thirty years and the current Czech Communist Party does not differ in any way from all the other Czech political parties which are really businesses which trade in political and economic power. Jan Čulík discusses this and Babiš's euroscepticism as well as his refusal to accept any refugees with the internationally well-known political scientist Jiří Pehe, Head of the Prague branch of New York University. The interview has been broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from Friday 20th July 2018.
