Abstract
This report is an output from the Horizon 2020 funded 'Young Adult' project on: 'Policies Supporting Young People in their Life Course. A Comparative Perspective of Lifelong Learning and Inclusion in Education and Work in Europe'. The report is a detailed presentation of findings from interviews with young adults (aged 18-29), senior administrators and practitioners on the implementation and felt effects of policy intended to improve training, employability and sustained employment accessible to young people in Scotland. The young adult participants were those engaged on a variety of employability and vocational programmes, and apprenticeships. The sample of young adults was not intended to include those who were not on any pathway. The key findings were that the participants were pleased to be on their programme on apprenticeship; that it had been difficult to find and get on the these routes, and that there was insufficient information on, or access to, vocational pathways. There was a lack of opportunities for young adults caught up in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. Administrators and practitioners worried about a plethora of programmes which were similar in form and intent, which crossed over with existing work, and about which they were not consulted.
