Abstract
This paper critically evaluates the potentials of using computational methods and automated routines of data retrieval through Application Programming Interface (API) in social and political science research. The application of data science and Social Network Analysis technique in collecting and analysing data from social media site, Twitter, will be presented. This paper also examines how these methods create opportunities as well as challenges for research. The limitations and assumptions introduced by "big data" analytics and data infrastructure will be discussed.
