Abstract

This session discusses key barriers to engage university faculty proactively with teaching innovations. The barriers include lack of comparative esteem between research and teaching; promotion mechanisms skewed towards research excellence; and risk aversion. We present ideas and recommendations for addressing barriers and creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm about teaching excellence in business schools. However, motivating staff is not sufficient if you are asking for too much! We challenge participants to solve a practical challenge experienced during the implementation of a recent teaching innovation.
