Abstract
This article, based on a key-note paper delivered to the Dada centenary conference organised by the Romanian Academy in February 2016, explores Benjamin Fondane's contribution to the theory and practice of avant-garde cinema with reference to Lev Shestov's existential thought and Gilles Deleuze's re-appraisal of Shestov's philosophy in Milles plateaux as the 'thought from outside'.
