Abstract

1. Solute and water movements in osmoregulation are discussed and certain formulae that have been used to relate permeability and osmoregulatory work to salinity are shown to be invalid. 2. Relationships between internal and external osmolality can be described by empirical equations, but certain conclusions that have been based on polynomial equations are fallacious.
