Abstract

This book charts the development of colonial architecture designed and built by the Public Works Department in Cyprus under British colonial rule, from 1878 to 1960. It places the buildings in their historical and architectural context, and examines the ideological and practical motivations for their designs. Unpublished plans and documentation from the Cyprus State Archives and the archives of the Public Works Department are used extensively.
