Abstract
This essay examines the inferiority complex of Castilian editorial philology -which the discipline associates with its belatedness in incorporating a neo-Lachmannian methodology- by bringing forth a divergent and polemic position formulated by Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht and Juan José Sánchez. This position examines the particularities of the Castilian case in terms of the concept of time, and in contrast to historical consciousness as the privileged form of approximation to temporality within the field of editorial philology. Moreover, the essay advances the possibility that similarities between the New Philology and Ramón Menéndez Pidal's neo-traditionalism may form the basis of a critical renewal for the present.
