Abstract

With the increasing demand on compact and efficient implantable devices, nano-communication technologies provide an attractive solution for potential applications in Body Area Networks (BAN). As an essential part of understanding the in-body propagation at THz frequency, which is regarded as the most promising band for electromagnetic paradigm of nano-communication, the path loss inside water and NaCl solution (forming the majority of the human body) at terahertz band is numerically and theoretical investigated, followed by the analysis of the channel capacity. The results demonstrate that the communication link between nano-devices inside water at THz band is sufficient and can provide a good quality link at distances of millimetre which is substantial considering the wavelength and the maximum dimension of the devices.
