Abstract
The constrained coincident-site-lattice model for the reference structures adopted by vicinal high-angle grain boundaries in non-cubic materials has been reassessed. It has been found that there are objections which can be raised to this model in terms of the formulations of the O-lattice equation, the Burgers vectors of interfacial dislocations, and the long-range elastic strain induced by the adoption of such a structure. It is suggested that a high density of coincident or near-coincident sites in the boundary plane may constitute a more appropriate model for the reference structures.
