Abstract

Little is known about the role of collaboration in terms of its impact on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). In this seminar will present the outcomes of two related pieces of research. The first is an evaluation of a Faculty Learning Community established to support the understanding of SoTL for a cohort of staff at a research-intensive university. Building on from this, the second study is an analysis of a deliberately engineered attempt to encourage and foster collaboration by pairing colleagues from the University of Glasgow with matched colleagues from the University of Wisconsin. I will bring the outcomes of both studies together along with the scholarly literature on collaboration in higher education. The seminar will conclude with some suggestions for how institutions can best foster a collaborative approach to the enhancement of learning and teaching and engagement in SoTL.
