Abstract
Commemorating the Easter Rising of 1916 in Ireland, this chapter considers the response to this event, and the influence it has had upon Scottish writers and Scottish literary scholarship since then, with reference to poets Hugh MacDiarmid and Iain Crichton Smith, novelist Janet Paisley, artist J.D. Fergusson, composer Erik Chisholm, and scholars of Gaelic literature.
