Abstract

The ideology of Islamism is directly linked to protecting the energy needs of contemporary capitalism and it represents a particularly egregious tool of reaction. The Charlie Hebdo killings need to be understood in the context of the larger political economy of imperialism and the dynamics of the energy markets underpinning it.
