Abstract
Plenary lecture, tracing the emergence of the new 'new philology' in the 1990s and its subsequent mutation into historical pragmatics. Illustrative texts from the Glasgow SCOTS corpus and Stavanger-Glasgow Middle English Grammar Corpus are presented, and the paper also deploys insights form the Glasgow Historical Thesaurus.
