Abstract

During the last three centuries, many women participated in the transnational circulation of ideas. Some of them engaged in the task of deciphering other cultures or representing plural identitis, often situating themselves on linguistic boundaries. Their literary activities may have produced new perspectives displacing male and females roles or ont he contrary confirmed existing gender norms. By presenting a range of critical approaches that help analyse these gender politics, this volume contributes to a literary history of women writers "between languages".
