Abstract

The surface of the hyperoceanic European endemic Plagiochila atlantica F.Rose is covered by wax rodlets and membranous wax platelets that are typical of members of the Neotropical Plagiochila sect. Bursatae Carl. Secondary metabolites indicate that P. atlantica has taxonomic affinity to Plagiochila aerea Taylor, the type species of sect. Bursatae.
