Abstract

The electronic structures of molybdenum and tungsten tris(dithiolene) monoanions have been investigated by multifrequency EPR. The outcome details a ligand-type dependent ground state description, with a ligand-centered paramagnet resulting from systems with olefinic dithiolenes, whereas aromatic dithiolenes find the unpaired electron on the metal. These results are complementary with sulfur K-edge XAS studies.
