Abstract

We address the generation of loop-top impulsive hard X-ray sources in impulsive solar flares in the context of a non-thermal bremsstrahlung model, indicating the effect of parameters such as the loop density and the parameters of the non-thermal particle distribution on the form of the loop-top source. We study one observed source, and use constraints from soft X-ray observations to narrow the parameters of the non-thermal distribution, indicating how this may be useful in identifying the particle acceleration mechanism.
