Abstract
Recently observed with the Hard X-ray Telescope onboard Yohkoh, loop-top hard X-ray sources have focussed interest on energy release in solar flares. Possibly a direct indication of the site of particle acceleration, they have thus far only been interpreted as thermal sources. In this letter we propose instead that the sources arise as a result of transport effects, and show using a stochastic simulation of non-thermal electron transport in a simple loop model, that many characteristics of the loop-top source can be reproduced.
