Abstract

Exploration missions to near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) and their Earth impact hazards have been rapidly becoming of interests to the worldwide space agencies over the last couple of decades. One of the asteroid deflection concepts, namely a gravity tractor (GT) which makes use of the gravitational interaction between the target body and the spacecraft hovering in its proximity. This paper will investigate two possible single and multiple GT configurations and evaluate them in terms of deflection efficiency, mission redundancy, and superiority of each configuration
