Abstract
Munich Underground represents a series of duets for laptops created in 2012 in collaboration with Martin Parker (University of Edinburgh). These were commissioned by the Surrounded festival, Munich, and performed there in the Einstein Arts Centre in November 2012. The concert comprised a number of different ’phases’, some solos, and some duos, where one of us would generate the primary material and the other would support or process it. The focus was on creating different spatial perspectives in the room (the MUG, an underground archway in the Einstein centre). We wanted to create a sound spatialisation approach that suited the particular performance situation, making a distinction between sound appearing to come from us as performers and an immersive room sound, and exploiting the distance possibilities of this long narrow venue.
