Abstract

Standardisation of Web Real-Time Communications (WebRTC) and Telepresence will likely lead to greatly increased deployment of interactive multimedia applica- tions on the Internet. The resulting high-rate multimedia traffic may cause congestion, but few congestion conttrol solutions have been proposed. We suggest that the congestion control, codec, and application be coupled and engage in a dialogue on the correct response to congestion; and that congestion control consider semantic feedback, not just transport-layer metrics.
