Abstract
Here is a chance for students to see first-hand how physics can be useful in health care. The instrument is simple enough for high school students to understand and operate as they study the pigmentation of their own skin. Scanning and mapping the skin surface can determine how its optical properties change with sunburn and it is a non-invasive technique for examining skin allergies and blemishes.
