Abstract

This review provides an update on the current understanding of the pathogenesis of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). Progress has been made in elucidating relevant pathomechanisms, especially in the axonal variants of the disease. However, the precise target autoantigens still need to be determined. Future therapeutic approaches and currently available strategies are critically discussed.
