Abstract

In a recent article in this journal Professor Steve Bruce (2003) accuses me of misrepresenting him, misrepresenting the position of Catholics in Scotland with respect to their experiences of bigotry and discrimination and of failing to distinguish between academic argument and polemic. He also provides a 'personal' statement on the place of religious schooling. Here, I rebut each of his points, demonstrating inconsistencies and incoherencies in his argument and challenge his particular liberal interpretation of the relationship between the public and private with respect to denominational schooling.
