Abstract

he purpose of this qualitative research was to identify and explore what a small group of initial teacher education students found significant to their learning. It then went on to explore whether there were any links between the aspects of learning and teaching which the student teachers identified as particularly significant or helpful to their learning and key features of creativity. The latter features were identified through an exploration of the literature on creativity. Ultimately, the research, therefore, aimed to inform and enhance academic practice by investigating whether there were some aspects of learning and teaching that could help students to experience and develop their learning in a creative way. This qualitative research study was limited to four students and focused on their seminar workshop learning within the curricular subject of English language and literature during year three of the B.Ed. programme. Data collection focused on the students’ reflective learning journals, a semi-structured interview and literature on the theme of creativity. The study’s key findings and conclusions identify links between learning, teaching and creativity, for the students concerned; the research also considers some issues and recommendations related to this.
