Abstract

The framework materials [(W72Mn12O268X7)-O-II/III](52-/40-) undergo heteroatom (X)-controlled reversible SC-SC redox reactions whereby the Ge-templated framework reduction is fast and reoxidation is slow. The opposite trend is set for the Si-templated framework, and these processes can be followed optically, spectroscopically and crystallographically.
