Abstract

As a part of its new activities for the advancement of nursing research, the Work Group of European Nurse Researchers (WENR) published a Position Paper on Nursing Research in Europe in 2002 (Annex 1). To take the Position Paper’s recommendations further, WENR discussed new avenues and opportunities. Based on the analysis of the member countries’ state of the art, a need was identified for strengthening European nursing research capacity and for creating a European nursing research infrastructure, especially 1networks of excellence. While the fostering of collaboration among European nurse researchers had been one of WENR’s main goals for 25 years, this now required new and more systematic forms.
