Abstract

The first edition and translation of Scotland’s earliest surviving legal tractate to represent a specific manuscript tradition, in this case the earliest known version, which survives in BL, MS. Add. 18111 and NLS, MS. 21246 (the ‘Bute MS.’). The reception of the extensive marginalia of the Bute MS. is traced through the later manuscript tradition. Edition, translation and notes by John Reuben Davies, Introduction by Alice Taylor (with one section co-written with JRD).
