Abstract
Young children draw corpses. Or they create a beautiful sunny landscape and then suddenly they draw all over it with black crayon. The refugees, now in the Czech Republic mainly from Ukraine, have experienced terrifying things that often traumatise them for many years, or, in the case of children, for life. But most of the help for refugees in the Czech Republic still remains with civil society. The Czech government has not thought of providing targeted medical assistance to traumatised refugees by psychotherapists, psychiatrists and psychologists. These professionals help refugees for free as volunteers. This is not enough, and the absence of effective psychological and psychiatric care may lead to serious problems in the future. Jan Čulík talks about this with psychiatrist Kateřina Duchoňová. This Britské listy interview was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from Friday 6 May 2022.
