Abstract

In this paper the design of a rectangular patch antenna with a capacitive coupled probe fed strip is presented. The antenna is placed on a Rogers RO3003 substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.00. The antenna resonance is kept around 5.5 GHz. The proposed work enhances the impedance bandwidth by placing air holes in the substrate, which reduces the effective permittivity and, consequently, increases the bandwidth. As a result, the proposed method enhances the bandwidth by approximately 8%. The simulated gain is around 8 dB. The antenna design is suitable for 5.5 GHz WLAN and V2X applications.
