Abstract
Reviews Scottish and English case law on the duty of care owed by teachers, and the vicarious duties of education authorities and independent schools, to protect pupils from personal injury, including: (1) the nature of the teacher's duty, including the peripheral factors affecting its scope; and (2) the factors influencing the decision to apply the in loco parentis or the ordinarily competent professional standards of teacher care.
