Abstract

The controversial, populist Czech President Miloš Zeman finally made it possible for the Czech PM Elect Petr Fiala to name its new government on 17th December 2021. Zeman has now accepted even the Pirate Party politician Jan Lipavský for the post of the Czech Foreign Secretary, whom he previously - illegally - slandered and rejected. But the Czech Republic does not have any foreign policy, its voice is not heard in the European Union. The Czech Republic is incapable of forming coalitions with other EU countries with the aim of pushing through beneficial policies. We are now facing an unprecedented crisis, something we have not experienced since the end of World War II. If Putin's army attacks the Ukraine, millions of refugees will come to Europe from there and a number of other, serious problems will arise. Is the Czech Republic anticipating these problems at all? This is a symposium of Britské listy commentators and analysts Jan Čulík, Karel Dolejší, Bohumil Kartous and Albín Sybera on these issues. The debate was broadcast on the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 17th November 2021.
