Abstract

This was a performance event related to the AHRC Editing Robert Burns for the 21st century: prose and songs project between 2011 and 2016. This was the first modern performance of Burns's cantata The Jolly Beggars from its first publication with music in 1818 as part of George Thomson's Select Collection of Original Scottish Airs with music by London Theatre Composer, Sir Henry Bishop. It featured professional soloists and period musicians and the University's Chapel Choir as the chorus. The project was directed by Kirsteen McCue and project PDRA Dr Gerard Lee McKeever.
