Abstract

In 2014, two agents of the Russian military intelligence, the same two individuals who later attempted to poison the Skripals in Salisbury, caused an explosion in a weapons warehouse in Vrbětice in the Czech Republic, close to the border between Czech Republic and Slovakia. Two Czech civilian employees of the warehouse were killed by the explosion. It not clear why the Czech government revealed this plot only in April 2021, almost seven years after the event. Is the history of the Vrbětice scandal yet more evidence of the incompetence of the Czech government structures? Jan Čulík discusses these issues with Professsor Jiří Pehe, a well-known political scientist and Director of the Prague branch of New York University. The interview was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 28th April, 2021.
