Abstract

Jan Haverkamp, a Greenpeace expert in nuclear energy, warns that the security measures which are now required internationally, as well as by the European Union, for the construction of new nuclear reactors are so extensive and expensive that no firms or states can afford them. Companies which are now trying to build nuclear reactors in several countries are going bankrupt for this reason. This is why the Czech Republic will not be able to afford the building of Dukovany 5 and all the talk about this is nonsense. At the same time, the generation of renewable energy is now cheaper than energy generated from carbon sources. The Czech government must develop a strategy for going over to renewable energy. It is realistic to do so, there is no other way. Jan Čulík talks to Jan Haverkamp in this interview which was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from Wednesday 17th February 2021.
