Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic is a serious test for the Czech Republic. It has shown that the Czech civil service and the institutions of the state are feeble, non-functional and infirm. Their ineffectual, chaotic reaction is leading society towards a catastrophe. The incompetent reaction of the authorities is threatening the lives of older people. Will the pandemic accelerate the departure of the last Czech post-communist veterans the PM Andrej Babiš and the President Miloš Zeman? Jan Čulík discusses the dramatic developments in the Czech Republic since the beginning of the pandemic with political scientist Professor Jiří Pehe, the Director of the Prague branch of New York University. The interview was broadcast by the Czech cable TV station Regionalnitelevize.cz from 30th December 2020.
