Abstract
Modern study of citizenship law has often focused on the law and practice of deprivation, and its implications for our understanding of British citizenship. This article offers the first detailed study of the law of renunciation of citizenship and its analogues, past and present, and incorporates the lessons of that study into the picture which has been painted on the basis of the law of deprivation.
