Abstract

This chapter presents the conceptual background to CBT and its application following ABI. We summarise our trans-diagnostic cognitive-behavioural model aimed at enabling the therapist to understand and engage more deeply with someone's lived experience following ABI and to aid collaborative identification of interventions. Along the way, we outline our view of what 'CBT' entails and the outcomes we are seeking to achieve with people with brain injury. We provide a brief description of the key therapeutic activities and map these to our clinical model, finally illustrating diversity of application with two cases.
