Abstract

We review the main causes of pediatric brain injury presenting within tertiary neurosciences centers, and consider clinical prognosis, psychosocial and neurodevelopmental outcomes alongside contemporary issues in neurorehabilitation. We cover a wide range of clinical presentations including traumatic brain injuries, exposure to environmental pathogens and current neuropsychological knowledge in pediatric brain tumors. We also provide an overview of overarching themes such the influence of developmental plasticity in recovery from early brain injury and family/environmental factors in moderating outcomes.
